Manama: The Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Safa Platform, the leading national platform for carbon offsetting. This initiative reflects the Club’s commitment to national responsibility and environmental sustainability. The agreement supports Bahrain’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. The MOU was signed by Yusuf Osama Buheji, CEO of REHC, and Talal Al Araifi, CEO of Safa Platform.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the initiative is part of the Club’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and strengthen sustainable practices across its operations. It demonstrates REHC’s dedication to promoting environmental awareness in the local sports community by integrating sustainability principles into horseracing, aligned with the national strategy to combat climate change and reduce emissions.
Buheji emphasised the Club’s commitment to supporting the National Environmental Strategy and tackling climate change, which is central to the Club’s vision and social responsibility. He expressed pride in partnering with Safa, utilising the platform’s expertise to embed carbon offsetting strategies in the Club’s activities, including international races hosted in Bahrain.
The collaboration also promotes environmental projects that reduce carbon emissions, such as renewable energy and afforestation programmes, aiming to generate a positive and lasting environmental impact and position REHC as a model for sustainable sport nationally and internationally.
Al Araifi highlighted the importance of this collaboration, reflecting growing awareness of climate action across all sectors, including sports. He noted that carbon offsetting is an effective tool to balance sports activities with environmental protection, offering innovative climate solutions and setting higher standards for sustainability in line with Bahrain’s vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
