Minister of Foreign Affairs Chairs Joint Ministerial Meeting Between GCC and Jordan

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the current session of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), chaired a joint ministerial meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the GCC member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, held today in Manama via videoconference.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was represented by Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, also participated in the meeting. The participants reviewed the longstanding and close relations between the GCC and Jordan and discussed efforts by technical working groups in implementing the Joint Action Plan (2020-2026) aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two sides across various fields.

Both sides also addressed regional developments, including the Iranian attacks against the GCC member states using ballistic missiles and drones targeting infrastructure, civilian facilities, and residential areas. These attacks have led to casualties and injuries among citizens and residents, along with extensive damage to civilian property.

The meeting commended United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which strongly condemned the Iranian attacks as a violation of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security. The resolution also condemned the attacks on residential areas and civilian objects, resulting in civilian casualties and damage.

Both parties affirmed the importance of continuing diplomatic coordination and cooperation to address the repercussions of the Iranian attacks and to mobilize international efforts for their immediate cessation, as per Security Council Resolution 2817. They emphasized the need to prepare for the next phase and support efforts aimed at protecting the freedom of international navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring energy security and food supplies.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director-General of Bilateral Relations; Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Head of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector; and Ambassador Nawar Abdullah Al Mutawa, Acting Head of the GCC Affairs Sector.
