Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the current session of the Ministerial Council, chaired the joint ministerial meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Arab Republic of Egypt, which was held today via videoconference. The Arab Republic of Egypt was represented by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, also participated in the meeting.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the participants reviewed the longstanding and close relations between the GCC member states and the Arab Republic of Egypt, focusing on ways to further develop them across various fields that serve common interests. Discussions included current regional developments, notably the Iranian missile and drone attacks against GCC member states that targeted infrastructure, civilian facilities, and residential are
as, causing fatalities, injuries, and significant damage to property.
Both sides praised United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemned the Iranian attacks against the GCC and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, describing them as violations of international law and threats to international peace and security. The resolution also addressed the civilian casualties and damage resulting from these attacks.
The meeting concluded with an affirmation of the importance of continued joint diplomatic coordination to implement the Security Council resolution and halt Iranian aggression. Participants underscored the significance of working together to tackle challenges, protect Arab national security, and support efforts to ensure freedom of international navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for energy security and food supply chains.
The meeting was attended by several ambassadors, including Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director-General of Bilateral
Relations; Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaleq Saeed, Head of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector; and Ambassador Nawar Abdullah Al Mutawa, Acting Head of the GCC Affairs Sector.
