Marrakech Forum Recommendations Back GCC States Following Iranian Attacks

Marrakech: The final recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Economic Forum expressed solidarity with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states following the Iranian attacks against them and highlighted the potential repercussions of any closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The recommendation came in response to a call by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, during the forum's opening session.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Musallam had called on PAM to adopt a clear position condemning Iranian attacks on international maritime security and rejecting attempts to threaten the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that any threat to the waterway would have implications for global trade and security. The forum's recommendations affirmed solidarity with Gulf countries that are members of PAM and referred to the potential long-term geo-economic consequences of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

The Parliamentary Division of the Kingdom of Bahrain concluded its participation in the fourth Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region, held on June 19-20 with the participation of parliamentary leaders, experts, and decision-makers from member states. The Bahraini delegation contributed to discussions on economic integration, free trade, public debt, artificial intelligence, employment creation, the blue economy, and the impact of climate change on food security.

The delegation, headed by Speaker Al Musallam, included MP Hanan Mohammed Fardan and Dr. Ali Majed Al Noaimi.
