Libya reiterates its rejection of the Swedish authorities’ continuous green light to allow extremists to burn copies of the Holy Quran.

The Government of National Unity (GNU) reiterated Libya’s categorical rejection and condemnation of the Swedish authorities’ continuous green light to allow extremists to abuse copies of the Holy Quran.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a statement that the extremists’ tearing up a copy of the Holy Quran in front of the Iraqi embassy in the Swedish capital Stockholm represents a hate crime and an abusive and deliberate targeting of Muslims around the world.

The statement considered the Swedish authorities’ protection of such acts unacceptable and contrary to the values of dialogue and respect for sanctities and cultures.

The GNU called on the international Community to confront and stand firm against these disgraceful acts and to unite efforts in confronting the growing extremist currents that threaten coexistence among peoples, cultures, and the cohesion of societies.
