Layla Al Bassam Exhibition Opens at Bahrain Art Centre

Manama:The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) has inaugurated the exhibition titled "Each Era, Dyed in the Colour of its Poetry" by artist Layla Hamad Al Bassam at the Art Centre.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the event was attended by Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of BACA, and Shaikha Dwa bint Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, a Member of the National Council for Arts and Chairwoman of the Lamea Association.

The exhibition features a fusion of word and image, as Al Bassam explores selected works of Arabic poetry from various perspectives. She transforms them into visual compositions, using collage to engage with the poetic texts. Her work creates a dialogue between different eras of Arabic poetry, drawing on the expressive qualities of poets like Al Mutanabbi, Al Ma'arri, Adonis, Mahmoud Darwish, and Badr Shakir Al Sayyab.

Al Bassam began her exploration of collage in 2019, collecting unused materials and objects to repurpose in her artworks. This approach focuses on turning everyday elements into art with a unique visual character. Her first solo exhibition took place in 2022 at the Bahrain Young Ladies Association.

She has participated in numerous exhibitions, including one dedicated to Gaza in 2024 and the summer art show, almasyaf, organized by the Bahrain Arts Society in collaboration with BACA at the Art Centre last June.

The exhibition runs until October 17 and is open daily from 9 AM to 8 PM at the Art Centre.
