Manama: Fatima Abdulla Al Dhaen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications for Land Transport and Postal Affairs, chaired the 28th extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Transport Undersecretaries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. The meeting was conducted via video conference and included participation from representatives of member states.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the agenda focused on implementing exceptional measures for the land transport sector within GCC countries, prompted by recent Iranian attacks. These measures aim to maintain the continuity and efficiency of passenger and freight land transport movement across member states.
Participants also explored mechanisms to facilitate land transport movement, such as permitting the passage of empty trucks and buses, and reviewed certain exemptions concerning the operational age of vehicles. These steps are part of collective efforts to ensure the smooth flow of transport and address potential challenges impacting the sector.
The committee highlighted the necessity for ongoing coordination among member states to enact these exceptional measures effectively, thereby supporting the land transport system and enhancing integration within the GCC region.
