Kuwait takes over UNESCWA cmte. on water resources

Kuwait on Monday took over the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia’s (UNESCWA) committee on water resources, saying the initiative reflects the country’s commitment towards regional development.

Kuwait makes it a point to attend UNESCWA gatherings that aim to discuss key issues, chiefly, water scarcity in the region, the Kuwaiti Water and Electricity Ministry’s Acting Undersecretary Maha Al-Asousi told KUNA on the sidelines of the talks.

While at the helm of the UNESCWA committee, Kuwait would be able to play a bigger role in bringing the UN body’s goals to fruition, according to UNSESCWA secretary Karim Khalil, pointing out that the aforementioned committee is the decision-making branch on key water-related issues.
