Kuwait FM meets Iraqi Parliament Speaker

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met on Sunday with the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammad Al-Halbousi and a number of Iraqi lawmakers and heads of committees.

In the meeting, Sheikh Salem conveyed greetings on behalf of the Kuwaiti leadership to the Speaker and to the Republic of Iraq and its people, extending his wishes for sustained growth, prosperity, and progress.

The meeting then delved into the strong relations that bind the two countries and the frameworks for supporting and strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially parliamentary cooperation, in a way that serves common interests and achieves the aspirations of the two countries.

The two sides also discussed vital and diverse areas of cooperation and to how to develop the economic, cultural, educational and security sectors, exchange experiences and strengthen partnership between the two countries.

Two sides mulled enhancing political and parliamentary coordination, cultural and security cooperation, and ways to enhance joint action towards ending all outstanding issues and removing everything that could impact the fraternal relations.

The two sides tackled addressing all outstanding issues between the two countries, especially completing the demarcation of the maritime borders beyond the 162 mark.

The Foreign Minister affirmed on the strength of the relations between the two countries and their peoples, and the common historical denominators that bring them together, praising the continuous development and growth witnessed by the cooperation process between the two countries in various fields.

Sheikh Salem also affirmed his keenness to deepen the historical relations that bind the two countries to serve common interests and achieve the aspirations of their peoples.

For his part, Iraqi Parliament Speaker praised the distinguished and historical relations that bind the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Iraq and their two peoples, and aspiration to raise the level of existing cooperation between them, especially in the commercial, investment and development fields.

Al-Halbousi expressed wishes for decades long of cooperation, partnership and common aspirations towards a more secure and prosperous future.
