Kuwait blames soaring summer demand for power cuts

Kuwait on Wednesday said peak summer demand for power was the culprit behind an outage that blanketed large swathes of the country, in addition to sweltering summer conditions that have seen temperatures rise higher than normal.

The ministry of electricity and water has taken “pre-emptive steps” including brief interruptions of power in a bid to keep “stability” in the national power grid, it said in a statement.

It called on the general public to limit consumption during peak hours, which stretch from 11 AM to 5 PM, saying such a measure was necessary to ensure continued supply.
