Kuwait is seeking to narrow the gender gap in line with the UN sustainable development strategy that guarantees men-women equality, a visiting official of the Gulf state said on Thursday.
Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi, the acting social affairs undersecretary, said the State of Kuwait's keenness on women empowerment and boosting their role at various levels emanated from its belief in their significant role and status in the Kuwaiti society.
Kuwait, at the legislative level, is seeking to fill the gender gulf in line with Provision 29 of the Constitution and the fifth goal of the 2030 sustainable development strategy that "guarantees for the Kuwaiti women a status equal to that of the men," he said.
Al-Mutairi, chairperson of a Kuwaiti delegation, was addressing the second session of the Woman Development Organization.
Kuwait has enacted 13 laws and decrees to support women in diverse fields, endorsing their right for education, work and care for special needs. Moreover, it has dedicated "full efforts" for combating domestic violence, gender cyber-crimes, he stated.
As to the ministry social affairs, he indicated that the department has sought to back the female citizens through professional training.
