The Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed that it will not be an obstacle to the resumption of oil exports through the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO).
The regional government said in a statement: ‘The Kurdistan Regional Council held its regular weekly meeting today, Wednesday, headed by the Council’s President, Masrour Barzani.’
It added: “The Cabinet Secretary, Amanj Rahim, presented the results of the recent visit made by the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation and representatives of oil companies to Baghdad, and the meeting that took place with the Iraqi Oil Ministry to discuss the issue of resuming the export of the region’s oil.”
The Cabinet Secretary indicated – according to the statement – that the regional government delegation insisted in the meetings on the necessity of establishing the necessary procedures and mechanisms to overcome all obstacles that hinder the resumption of oil exports from the region as soon as possible, with the aim of starting to resume the export of the region’s
oil through SOMO as soon as possible. And that the revenues from the sale of the region’s oil be deposited within the revenues of the public treasury of Iraq to cover expenses.’
He added: ‘During the meetings held in Baghdad, we expressed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s readiness to facilitate any action in this regard, while respecting constitutional principles and powers and the common public interest,’ stressing that the Kurdistan Regional Government will not be an obstacle to the resumption of oil exports, and is striving to reach a final agreement as soon as possible.
