King Hamad Global Center Advocates for Ethical AI Use at International Assembly

Bucharest: The King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance participated in the 32nd General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), which took place in Bucharest, Romania, from June 2-6. The assembly focused on the theme "Cooperation between Parliaments and Religious Institutions in Developing Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence - The Importance of the Marrakesh Declaration by the Inter-Parliamentary Union".

According to Bahrain News Agency, Noora Abdulla Al Mansoori, Director of Coexistence at the Center, addressed the plenary session, emphasizing Bahrain's commitment to fostering international collaboration among parliamentary, executive, and religious bodies. She stressed the need for fair digital policies and ethical frameworks to utilize modern technologies and AI applications effectively. This would ensure a more just and tolerant world, upholding democracy, justice, coexistence, and tolerance amidst global challenges.

Al Mansoori showcased the Center's experience with AI-powered educational tools through the "Science Schools for Peace" initiative, launched in Jordan in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union. This initiative, in collaboration with the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), included projects like "AI Assistant 1" and "AI Participant 1" to aid legislative and executive bodies in managing tasks, analyzing data, writing reports, and making decisions.

She also emphasized the Center's commitment to supporting cross-cultural dialogue and advancing ethical digital policies to promote peace and prevent misuse in privacy violations or inciting intolerance. This initiative aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the call from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for an international treaty to regulate AI's responsible and ethical development, enhancing trust, transparency, and shared human values.
