KHGC Chairman Highlights Bahrain’s Role in Promoting Coexistence and Religious Freedom

Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance (KHGC), emphasized the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to fostering coexistence and tolerance. Under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain has become a model for promoting freedom of belief and respecting religious and cultural diversity.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Kingdom's dedication to these values is showcased through its observance of World Interfaith Harmony Week and the International Day of Human Fraternity. These events coincide with the Kingdom's celebration of the "Year of Isa Al Kabeer," honoring His Highness Isa Al Kabeer, the Ruler of Bahrain and founder of the modern state. The chairman highlighted Bahrain's recognition in the Guinness World Records for having the highest density of houses of worship, a testament to its commitment to religious freedom.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed noted that Bahrain's advanced civilizational model is based on principles of citizenship, justice, and respect for diversity. He emphasized the importance of interfaith cooperation and harmony as essential elements for societal security and international peace. The Kingdom aligns its national values with global initiatives to support peace and tolerance, countering extremism and conflict.

Highlighting royal initiatives, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla mentioned the Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration on Freedom of Religion and Belief, a call for an international convention against hate speech, and the establishment of the King Hamad Award for Coexistence and Tolerance. These efforts are complemented by international conferences promoting dialogue and human coexistence.

The KHGC, under Dr. Shaikh Abdulla's leadership, is dedicated to promoting these values through educational and training programs. Initiatives like the Postgraduate Diploma in Coexistence and the King Hamad Leadership in Coexistence Programme aim to prepare leaders to manage religious and cultural diversity, fostering social cohesion and stability.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla concluded by reaffirming Bahrain's commitment to safeguarding religious freedoms and participating in international initiatives that promote dialogue and understanding. The Kingdom's efforts to enhance harmony and coexistence among diverse religions and cultures contribute to a more secure and progressive world that upholds human rights and peaceful societies.
