Justice Ministry Expands Digital Marriage Contract System

Accra:The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf has activated its electronic system for 154 authorised marriage officials, enhancing the use of digital technology in processing marriage contracts. This service allows for marriage contracts to be completed electronically using smart tablets.

According to Bahrain News Agency, over 600 electronic marriage contracts have been completed since the service launched in mid-July. Initially introduced gradually, the service was expanded to include more authorised marriage officials, with training provided to ensure efficient use of the system.

The digital system modernizes the documentation process by replacing paper-based transactions with an integrated electronic system. This covers the entire process, from the marriage contract session attended by the parties and witnesses to certification by the competent Sharia court and electronic delivery of the certified contract.

Wafaa Ibrahim Al Hajri, Director of Information Technology at the ministry, emphasized that the expansion is part of the ministry's efforts to enhance judicial and Sharia services. The initiative aims to streamline procedures, improve service efficiency, and utilize digital solutions effectively.

The digital marriage contract service is part of broader government efforts to improve service quality and re-engineer procedures, allowing licensed officials to conclude marriage contracts with greater ease and efficiency.
