Jordanian King Engages in High-Level Talks at UN Assembly in New York

New york: His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan met with leaders of states and heads of international organisations participating in the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

According to Bahrain News Agency, His Majesty King Abdullah II engaged in discussions with Alexander Van der Bellen, President of the Republic of Austria; Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic; and Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, focusing on key developments in the region, particularly regarding the Palestinian issue. King Abdullah II emphasized the need to increase international efforts to achieve comprehensive calm in the Middle East. He highlighted that regional stability hinges on fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and establishing their independent state based on the two-state solution, while commending Australia and Portugal's recognition of the State of Palestine.

In a meeting with Ant³nio Costa, President of the European Council, King Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the European Union and expanding its benefits across a range of areas.

King Abdullah II also held talks with Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme, to explore ways to enhance cooperation between Jordan and the UN programme, especially in addressing the food needs of Syrian refugees and host communities. The discussions also covered international response efforts to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
