President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Khalil Haj Tawfiq, said Jordan has a "distinguished" experience in the social responsibility field, which constitutes a "model" in the region and beyond.
During his participation in "Social Responsibility of the Private Sector and its Role in Sustainable Development" Conference organized by Union of Arab Chambers (UAC), Haj Tawfiq noted Jordanian trade chambers "play a major role in terms of community service based on its national role towards its social responsibility."
According to a JCC statement issued Tuesday, Haj Tawfiq focused during the sessions on sustainable development, which he considered a "moral" responsibility for the commercial sector, referring to the sector's role in training and qualifying youth to enter the labor market.
Haj Tawfiq noted social responsibility of the various Jordanian private sector institutions is an investment in human resources and benefits national economy and private sector establishments and companies.
Moreover, he referred to Jordan's "remarkable" efforts and humanitarian role under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership by extending assistance to multiple Arab and friendly countries, especially by establishing field hospitals in areas that are exposed to exceptional circumstances.
During the conference, which concluded its activities on Monday evening, in Beirut, in presence of representatives of 17 Arab and foreign countries, he noted Arab countries now need to build a database that enables private sector to "institutionalize" its social responsibilities, orchestrate related efforts and launch a special Arab fund for this purpose.
