Iraq And Tunisia Discuss Ways To Develop Bilateral Relations

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Muhammad Bahr Al-Uloum, and the Secretary of State at the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Muhammad Mounir bin Rajiba, held a meeting that dealt with ways to develop bilateral relations.

During the meeting, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they discussed ways to develop relations between the two brotherly countries, and discussed political and cultural issues of common interest.

According to the statement, Bahr al-Uloom stressed the importance of upgrading bilateral trade relations and working to increase exports and imports between the two countries, stressing Iraq’s position in support of the democratic transition in Tunisia and the aspirations of its government to build a democratic system that meets the aspirations of the Tunisian people at all political, economic and social levels.

The statement added that the two sides discussed the ongoing movement on the regional and international arenas to reach understandings between the concerned countries regarding dealing with illegal immigration and limiting its negative consequences for the international community. In addition to ways to enhance cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and drying up its human and financial sources.

For his part, bin Rajiba expressed the Tunisian government’s interest in developing bilateral relations and its endeavor to intensify political consultations between the two countries, and exchange views on current regional and international issues.

The two sides stressed the importance of intensifying bilateral talks, especially with regard to activating the cultural executive program concluded between the two countries and completing the requirements for signing a memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Higher Education and the Ministry of Interior in the two countries for cooperation in the scientific and security fields of common interest.
