Interior Ministry: ‘Al-Jazeera’ channel desperately trying to undermine Bahrain’s human rights achievements

The Ministry of Interior issued a statement in response to a report by Qatari Al Jazeera Channel quoting a member of the Spanish Parliament, Maria Gloria Ezzo Serrano, from an alleged human rights organisation, including the MP asking her government about the human rights situation in Bahrain.

In its statement, the Interior Ministry clarified the following:

“First: The quotes and stances, including the views of the Spanish Parliamentarian, include overused terms. Those individuals criticised others as if they appointed themselves as guardians of other nations. However, they ignore the problems of their countries that require attention.

“Second: Those at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre are convicts who serve final court rulings in criminal cases related to violence and terrorism involvement or incitement. Therefore, such statements are rejected and considered interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain.

“Third: The observer of the inciting role of the Qatari Al Jazeera channel against Bahrain and its people realises the desperate attempt to defame the accomplishments of Bahrain, and its human rights approach through organisations and laws, in which Qatar, the sponsor of the channel, had failed to achieve even some of them.

“Fourth: The statements are released through prior arrangements on a personal rather than an institutional level, and then aired on Al Jazeera Channel. It is a coordinated incitement approach by the Qatari channel for media misleading to politicise human rights.

“Finally: The Interior Ministry continues to enforce the law and human rights. Bahrain has achieved remarkable human rights accomplishments and promoted human rights culture in police work and different walks of life. These abusive statements represent individuals who released them, and they have absolutely no connection with their organisations or institutions.”
