Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, delivered a statement marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30. The minister emphasized Bahrain's dedication to combating human trafficking through international cooperation and coordinated action.
According to Bahrain News Agency, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah reaffirmed the Kingdom's steadfast commitment to regional coordination, collective action, and international partnership in addressing this serious crime. This commitment is guided by the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with support from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister highlighted Bahrain's achievements in combating human trafficking and maintaining its leading international standing in this field. He stressed the importance of proactive action, security preparedness, and the use of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence in protecting victims and combating human trafficking.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah also announced the launch of a scientific research award dedicated to combating human trafficking, aimed at supporting national efforts to address the crime. He expressed appreciation for the contributions of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, civil society organizations, and the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, particularly the Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate.
Statistics show that the Directorate handled 70 reports between 2025 and the first half of 2026, resulting in the protection of 84 victims and legal proceedings against 92 suspects. The minister noted that the international observance highlights the growing spread of human trafficking, which is incompatible with divine religions and international conventions. Transnational organized criminal groups exploit victims by forcing them to work under inhumane conditions.
In concluding his statement, the minister affirmed that the Ministry of Interior will continue to safeguard the Kingdom's security, uphold the rule of law, and promote values such as peace, moderation, tolerance, and equality. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah wished for the continued security and prosperity of the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
