Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Police Academy, attended the graduation ceremony for the fifth and sixth batches of postgraduate students at the Royal Police Academy, comprising personnel from the Ministry of Interior and various government entities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the event was also attended by Major General Adel bin Khalifa bin Hamad Al Fadhel, the Deputy Minister of Interior; Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, the Chief of Public Security; His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Governor of the Southern Governorate; Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Alastair Long, the British Ambassador to Bahrain.
The two batches included 100 graduates specialising in Master’s programmes in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, Human Rights and Criminal Justice, Artificial Intelligence, and Disaster and Emergency Planning. These programmes are offered by the Royal Police Academy in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield, UK.
Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his continued support of the police, emphasising the importance of equipping personnel with strategic and humanitarian knowledge to enhance national security. He also emphasised the continuous support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting their impact on operational readiness and excellence in security services.
The Minister highlighted that the Master’s programmes provide a qualitative addition to the Academy’s curriculum, promoting human rights in law enforcement, advancing cybersecurity and AI capabilities, and strengthening disaster and emergency preparedness. He congratulated the graduates on their achievements, commending their efforts in acquiring knowledge to contribute to advanced security services.
Major General Fawaz Al Hassan, Commander of the Royal Police Academy, expressed appreciation to the Minister of Interior for his support, noting that the graduation reflects the close cooperation with the University of Huddersfield and the ongoing investment in human capital and international expertise to enhance the skills of Ministry personnel.
He emphasised the Academy’s commitment to developing Ministry staff, extending its impact across government sectors, and empowering youth. He highlighted that the Minister’s directives and comprehensive social, health, and professional support have significantly advanced the modernisation and effectiveness of policing in Bahrain.
Professor Tim Thornton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, of the University of Huddersfield, congratulated the graduates, noting the importance of the event for them and their families. He highlighted that this was the first awards ceremony for the Master of Science in Security Studies programme, which was developed, accredited, and offered by the university.
The Master’s programmes covered specialised subjects such as AI included machine learning and autonomous intelligent systems; Cybersecurity covered practical research, data extraction, and network security; Human Rights included legal skills, international human rights law, and civil liberties protection; Disaster and Emergency Planning focused on human roles in crises, emergency communication, and preparedness.
The ceremony featured a short film showcasing the collaboration between the Royal Police Academy and the University of Huddersfield in developing educational and training programmes.
The Minister of Interior also honoured top graduates, encouraged all participants to continue contributing to national service, and commended the Royal Police Academy for modernising its academic and training programmes, wishing everyone success in serving the Kingdom.
