Interior Minister Addresses Bahraini Citizens on Regional Security Concerns

Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, met with citizens across Bahrain, emphasizing the nation's community partnership strategy and measures to bolster community engagement.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Interior Minister highlighted the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in ensuring the Kingdom's protection during Iranian aggression. He noted that the solid security foundations laid by the King have strengthened Bahrain's national defense. The meeting addressed the repercussions of Iranian attacks, with a focus on the government's measures, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The Minister discussed the historical context of Iranian aggression targeting Bahrain and other Gulf states. He emphasized the need to analyze the Wilayat al-Faqih doctrine, which extends beyond religious boundaries into a political project by Khomeini. This doctrine shifts political allegiance from the state to Iran's religious authority, posing a threat to national interests and stability. The Minister reiterated that no authority should supersede the civil state in Bahrain.

General Shaikh Rashid outlined the evolution of Iranian policy post-1979 revolution, leading to interference in Bahrain's affairs, including a failed coup attempt in 1981. He mentioned Iran's attempts to mobilize proxies within Shia circles under sectarian and political pretenses, which included acts of intimidation and terrorism. The late Shaikh Salman Al Madani was cited as a victim of these proxies.

The Minister praised the reforms initiated by His Majesty the King in 1999, which fostered political reconciliation, democratic development, and a general amnesty for those involved in national security cases. These reforms disrupted Iran's efforts in Bahrain, leading to the dissolution of Iran-linked organizations like the Islamic Scholars Council and Al Wefaq Society.

He also noted the 2011 withdrawal of opposition members from parliament, which underscored a divide within the Shia community. Some members participated in by-elections despite threats, showcasing loyalty to Bahrain over Iranian influence. The Minister expressed gratitude to citizens rejecting Iran's political and religious authority.

General Shaikh Rashid addressed the recent Iranian attacks on Bahrain, highlighting the swift legal measures taken against individuals betraying the nation. These included revoking nationalities and deporting traitors. He elaborated on the decisive actions against Iran's proxies, especially those linked to Wilayat al-Faqih and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The Minister explained that the authorities had transitioned from addressing individual criminal acts to a comprehensive approach against Iran-linked actors. Despite reform efforts, the organization continued to seek dominance in political and religious spheres, intimidate opponents, and finance terrorism. Authorities seized substantial funds linked to these activities.

General Shaikh Rashid revealed the infiltration of mosques and community centers by the organization, transforming them into recruitment and ideological hubs. The group exploited social and economic issues, trained individuals abroad, and engaged in arms smuggling. They also spread disinformation to deepen sectarian divides, which the Minister condemned as crimes against the nation.

In rejecting claims of targeting Bahrain's Shia community, the Interior Minister affirmed the community's integral role in Bahraini society, protected by the Constitution and laws. He emphasized that security efforts would persist against individuals serving aggression against Bahrain.

Attendees at the meeting expressed unity behind His Majesty's leadership and commitment to security and public order amid regional challenges. They reiterated that Bahrain's security and stability are inviolable and commended the sacrifices of security personnel in protecting national achievements.
