Manama: The 37th GPIC Open Tennis Championship held at the Bahrain Tennis Club was marked by intense competition and notable participation, reaffirming its status as one of the premier tennis events in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In the men’s doubles over-45 category, John Kaye and Ahmed Jaafar emerged victorious, while other strong pairs, such as Ashraf Al Atabani and Khalid Abdulqayum, advanced after closely contested matches.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the men’s singles over-45 saw memorable contests, with Ahmed Mahfouz and Aqeel Al Mosawi among the standout winners. In the men’s super category, Ariel Baldivino, Husam Al Din, and Victor Velasco secured key victories. The men’s over-60 category featured Alan Higgins and Ebrahim Qaed continuing their successful runs, while Christian Chavet and Somanathan won their doubles match by withdrawal. The men’s open doubles category included exciting matches, highlighted by a narrow tiebreak victory for Abdullah Abdulredha and Wafi Al Mahmood.
In the women’s singles, Jawairiah Noordin, Eman Al Zaimoor, Alyssa Vardan, and Deepali Shevalkar all recorded wins. In the women’s doubles, the pairs of Hanaa Issa with Amina Abdulqader and Jawairiah Noordin with Ellen Espinoza secured victories.
