Manama: The Ministry of Information in Bahrain recently organized a specialized technical seminar titled "Bahrain's Experience in Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+)" as part of a media collaboration with Oman. The seminar was conducted remotely and featured participation from specialists and engineers of Oman's Ministry of Information.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the seminar was led by Abdullah Ahmed Al Baloushi, Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Information. Al Baloushi reviewed key milestones in Bahrain's transition to the DAB+ system, which represents the latest third-generation radio broadcasting technology. He discussed the implementation of advanced digital studios, the integration of digital broadcasting infrastructure, and the adoption of high-quality standards in audio content transmission. Al Baloushi emphasized how this technology enhances the listener experience and aligns with evolving media sector technologies.
Abdullah Jamal, Head of the Radio Library at the Ministry of Information, also contributed to the seminar by discussing the primary advantages of DAB+, particularly its superior sound quality. Jamal stressed the importance of educating programme producers about the new technology and integrating it with broadcasting automation systems like the RCS system used at Bahrain Radio. He also highlighted the preparation of the digital library to facilitate effective data transmission.
Jamal pointed out the increasing availability of modern receivers that support DAB+, which are now included in home theatre systems and professional radio devices. This integration aids in spreading the technology and ensuring a high-quality, reliable listening experience.
The seminar is part of the Ministry of Information's ongoing initiatives to share expertise in digital transformation and strengthen media partnerships with GCC countries, thereby contributing to the development of the media sector across the region.
