Indian Embassy celebrates International Day of Yoga


Embassy of India in Jordan on Friday evening marked the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024 in Jordan with a “grand” Yoga demonstration Session at the Al-Hussein Sports City Area.

The event saw “wide” participation from various sections of society, comprising prominent Yoga Schools in Jordan, friends of India in Jordan, members of diplomatic community, healthcare professionals, students, Indian community associations representatives, Indian diaspora and yoga enthusiasts.

In his address, Charge d’affaires of the Embassy, Mr. Razeem K, emphasized the “immense” value that the ancient practice of yoga brings to achieve a “holistic” lifestyle encompassing mind, body, and spirit, and highlighted the “transformative” impact that yoga can have on both individual and societal levels.

The diplomat also stressed the importance of the 2024 theme for International Yoga Day – “Yoga for Self and Society” – underscoring yoga’s potential to foster peace, harmony, and community well-being.

The grand celebration in Amman featured a live yoga session led by Ms. Eman Suheimat, a “renowned” Jordanian Yoga Instructor and founder of “Over the Rainbow” studio, as well as cultural performances and videos showcasing the diverse facets of yoga and its rich heritage.

Yoga, was upgraded at the international level under the efforts of Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi, after the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, with the adoption of a General Assembly resolution.

The occasion is marked by events and activities in countries around the world to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of this ancient practice from India.
