India PM: QUAD to work for global good, human welfare, peace, prosperity

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the QUAD will continue to work for global good, human welfare, peace and prosperity as he addressed the QUAD summit held in Hiroshima on the sidelines of G7 summit.

The Indian Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement Sunday that Modi told leaders of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) involving India, the US, Australia, and Japan that the security and success of the Indo-Pacific is important not only to the region, but to the world. “The QUAD group has established itself as an important platform for ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. There is no doubt that the Indo-Pacific region is the engine of global trade, innovation and growth. We unanimously agree that the security and success of the Indo-Pacific is important not only to the region, but to the world,” he said. Modi added that QUAD is marching ahead with a constructive agenda built on shared democratic values. “Through our shared efforts, we are giving practical dimensions to our vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific,” Modi said. He also appreciated the growing cooperation between the QUAD members in “climate action, disaster management, strategic technologies, reliable supply chain, health security, maritime security, counter-terrorism.” He also wished that today’s meeting will give an opportunity to discuss inclusive and people-centric development of the entire region. “I believe that the QUAD will continue to work for the global good, human welfare, peace and prosperity. I appreciate and congratulate Prime Minister Albanese for his successful Presidency of this Summit,” he added. The Indian PM also expressed his country’s wish to host the QUAD Leaders’ Summit in India next year. In wake of US President Joe Biden’s postponement of Australian visit, Albanese had announced the cancellation of QUAD summit scheduled to be held in Australia’s Sydney. The summit was held today in Japan in wake of the cancellation of the event in Sydney.
