iGA Urges Immediate Update of Card Reader Software for New ID Cards

Manama: The Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) has issued a call to action for banks and various institutions within the public and private sectors to download the updated card reader software. This software is now accessible via Bahrain's National Portal, bahrain.bh, and is essential for reading data from the newly revamped ID cards, as well as previous versions.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the updated software will facilitate seamless data reading for healthcare, education, banking, and telecommunications institutions. This update is crucial for the efficient processing of transactions that require access to citizen and resident data. Entities with questions about the updated software can submit their inquiries through the National Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul) or the Tawasul app.

The revamped ID card includes enhanced security measures and expanded capabilities for digital transactions. Bahrain is pioneering in the Gulf by integrating a travel application within the ID card's chip, in collaboration with Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs. The card is constructed from durable polycarbonate material, providing resistance to scratches, heat, and environmental factors. Additionally, data is engraved using laser technology to further bolster security.
