Manama: The Supreme Council for Women (SCW), in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), has announced that the third edition of the Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment has received 1,774 entries from countries worldwide.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the total number of submissions, recorded by the March 20, 2026 deadline, exceeded the combined total of previous editions, which stood at 571 entries. UN Women data reveals that the first edition of the award received 612 entries, while the second edition recorded 591.
Civil society organisations contributed the highest number of submissions, with 792 entries. This was followed by individuals with 621 entries, the private sector with 257, and the public sector with 104. Notably, entries from individuals, civil society, and the public sector surpassed the figures recorded in the previous edition.
The award, launched by the Kingdom of Bahrain in partnership with UN Women, is designed to highlight national initiatives, programmes, and projects that support women's empowerment on a global scale.
The next phase will involve the screening and evaluation of submissions in coordination with an international judging panel, in accordance with the work plan managed by UN Women.
