Manama: His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, engaged in a meeting with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation, focusing on the Kingdom's healthcare sector advancements.
According to Bahrain News Agency, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad articulated Bahrain's dedication to improving its healthcare services by enhancing medical treatments and emphasizing efficiency and sustainability. This initiative is in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The Crown Prince highlighted the significance of modernizing the healthcare sector as a fundamental aspect of national development and reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services while integrating scientific and technological innovations.
HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with international health institutions, noting that these collaborations are crucial for developing the national workforce and elevating the quality of healthcare services in Bahrain. The meeting also addressed the Kingdom's recent achievement in treating a sickle cell disease patient using Casgevy, a CRISPR-based gene-editing therapy, marking a significant milestone outside the United States.
During the discussions, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad stressed aligning efforts with the Kingdom's healthcare strategic goals through comprehensive plans and a scientific approach. He reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to enhancing cooperation with international health organizations, including the WHO, to foster innovative healthcare solutions and strengthen Bahrain's reputation as a regional leader in healthcare services.
Dr. Ghebreyesus expressed appreciation for HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad's dedication to bolstering cooperation between Bahrain and the WHO. He concluded by wishing Bahrain ongoing progress and prosperity.
The meeting was attended by HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, and HE Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health.
