HM King’s support made Bahrain a reference in women issues: SCW Secretary-General

Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), Hala Al-Ansari, has affirmed that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s unwavering support for Bahraini women, through the SCW, has made Bahrain a centre and a reference in women-related issues.

The royal support has also enhanced Bahrain’s status as a developed country that is committed to contributing effectively to regional and global efforts to consolidating the empowerment of women, following up on their advancement and leading initiatives in this regard in cooperation with international organisations, citing the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa’s Global Award for Women Empowerment, she added.

In an interview with the Abu Dhabi TV channel during the “Hatha Ana” (This Is Me) talk show presented by Nada Al-Shibani, Al-Ansari asserted that the adoption of a specialised national plan for the advancement of Bahraini women by the head of the state, represented by HM the King, is a first-of-its-kind initiative at the Arab and international levels, making the plan a national framework in which all state departments work together to consolidate Bahraini women’s participation in the national action process, along with men.

She added that the SCW is constantly updating the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women to ensure the effectiveness of its implementation mechanisms, in line with the sound directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and SCW President, citing the SCW’s efforts to not only continue its support for Bahraini women during the spread of COVID-19, but also develop the mechanisms to deal with the pandemic in order to mitigate its negative effects on family stability and civic peace.

In another context, Al-Ansari called for reformulating the discourse of GCC and Arab countries to the West and international organisations, based on the national achievements in all development fields, including women issues, so that they recognise GCC and Arab accomplishments in this regard.

The SCW Secretary-General hailed the progress made by women in GCC countries across various fields, highlighting their landmark contributions to their home countries and region.

During the interview, Al-Ansari also shed light on her education in Bahrain and abroad, as well as her relations with her father, writer and thinker Dr. Mohammed Jaber Al-Ansari, and her mother, noting that her parents have been keen to instill authentic Bahraini and Arab values in the minds of their children.

Al-Ansari valued highly the keenness of HM King Hamad to inquire about her father’s health condition, noting that their relationship has always been a distinguished human one, crowned recently by HM the King’s patronage of a ceremony to honour Dr. Al-Ansari during his 80th birthday.
