HM King Delegates Shaikh Nasser to Attend Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship Opening Ceremony

Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa deputised His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, to attend the official opening ceremony of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship at the Royal Golf Club, scheduled from January 29 to February 1, 2026. Upon his arrival, His Highness was received by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the opening ceremony was also attended by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior; Ambassador Paolo Zampolli, Special Envoy of President Donald Trump of the United States of America, and several senior officials. On the occasion, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King for his patronage, reflecting support for Bahraini sports and international events. His Highness praised the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in fostering an environment conducive to hosting international championships.

His Highness highlighted the championship as a significant event in the international golf calendar, known for its organisation and technical level, and its role in showcasing Bahrain's sporting and tourism capabilities. His Highness extended his best wishes to all participants.

The ceremony began with the royal anthem, followed by a speech from His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, thanking His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for their support of sports, particularly golf. His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad was also commended for his role in advancing Bahraini sports.

His Highness announced the renewal of Bahrain's contract to host the championship for the next decade, demonstrating confidence in Bahrain's organisational capabilities and enhancing global sports partnerships. The championship this year features top golf players worldwide, including three Bahraini participants, alongside a comprehensive entertainment program. His Highness acknowledged the contributions of Bapco Energies, sponsors, partners, committees, and volunteers.

Tom Phillips, Director of Middle East at DP World Tour, praised the organisation's excellence and commended the efforts leading to the championship's success. The ceremony included a special artistic presentation with a song and a film detailing the history and development of golf in Bahrain, its achievements, and the 'Year of Isa Al Kabeer' celebration in 2026.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad also participated in signing the golf ball, with the ceremony concluding as participating countries' representatives entered the stage.
