His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Board of Trustees Chairman of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), has lauded the success of the RHF’s Real Madrid Academy in claiming the third place and winning the Best Team award during the Alma Cup.
Supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the tournament was organised by the Real Madrid Foundation at Real Madrid City.
Real Madrid academies in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Austria, Egypt, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Jordan and Bahrain participated in the tournament.
RHF Secretary-General, Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayed, received the RHF Real Madrid Academy players, and conveyed to them HH Shaikh Nasser’s greetings and congratulations on their outstanding results, as well as HH’s wishes for further success to them.
Dr. Al-Sayed stressed that the Academy is an important club that could provide national clubs and federations with players, expressing hope that the players will be able to join professional clubs in European leagues.
The RHF Secretary-General honoured the players for their landmark achievements, and encouraged them to continue honouring the kingdom at various sports gatherings.
During the tournament in which Bahrain participated for the first time, Adnan Aqeel won the Best Player award in three matches, while Yousif Al-Sabagh won the Best Goalkeeper award and Ali Abdulnabi was the team’s best scorer with 14 goals.
Player Ali Abdulnabi delivered a statement on behalf of his teammates in which he extended deepest thanks to HH Shaikh Nasser for his constant support for sports achievements through the “Year of Gold”, which was praised by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The tournament featured various side events, such as field visits to Madrid’s tourism sites and competitions.
Participating teams were also allowed to introduce their countries.
