Manama: His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty's Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, chaired the council's meeting for the year 2026, with the presence of the council's members.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting reviewed strategic initiatives and projects aimed at developing the youth and sports sector in Bahrain. It adopted several recommendations and decisions to improve quality of life and enhance the kingdom's standing in youth empowerment and sports.
His Highness praised Bahraini youth on International Youth Day, recognizing their achievements supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. He emphasized the Supreme Council's commitment to a national vision focused on investing in people and promoting initiatives to meet the aspirations of Bahraini youth, aligning with the royal vision to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
The council was briefed on a special visa initiative for professional athletes to create a regulatory framework for their entry and residence, contributing to the professional sports system. The General Sports Authority was tasked with coordinating with the Ministry of Interior to support this initiative.
A health initiative promoting calorie awareness in restaurants was also reviewed, with directives for the Ministry of Health to work with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to implement a system for disclosing food calories. This aims to establish a culture of healthy eating and encourage lifestyles that positively impact quality of life and public health.
The council also discussed legislative amendments to enhance youth opportunities in the labor market. The Minister of Labour proposed developing the labor market system, extending social security, and improving mechanisms for unemployment benefits to support worker stability. The council stressed the importance of adapting legislation to train young people and enhance their market participation.
In youth empowerment, the council reviewed the 'Youth City 2030' initiative, focused on future skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship to prepare young people for future demands. The council aims to maximize the city's national impact as a key initiative in youth empowerment.
His Highness directed ongoing monitoring of the council's decisions to ensure objectives are met, highlighting the need for teamwork and partnership strengthening to position Bahrain as a model for youth and sports investment.
