Manama: His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), chaired the eighth meeting of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Board of Directors.
According to Bahrain News Agency, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad emphasised the importance of Bahrain's national teams, Team Bahrain, making a significant representation at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The games are scheduled from September 19 to October 4, and the focus is on returning with achievements that reflect the status and reputation of Bahraini sports.
His Highness was briefed on the latest preparations by the Bahrain Olympic Committee for the Asian Games, including details on the participating sports and the delegation's size. He also reviewed the preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Riyadh.
The meeting covered developments concerning Bahrain's hosting of the 2027 Arab Games and preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It was decided that Bahrain will host the 38th meeting of the Presidents of the National Olympic Committees of the GCC countries and the 102nd Executive Office meeting.
Fares Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary-General of BOC, presented the sporting achievements of the first quarter of 2026, highlighting the men's national handball team's Asian Championship title and results from the sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya 2026 and the fourth Gulf Games in Doha 2026.
The Committee's achievements in 2025 were also reviewed, alongside developments regarding the International Aquatics Federation project and GFH Group. Discussions included implementing regulations for training and coaches in sports federations and appointing B.K.F. Al Bassam to audit the sports federations' accounting records for 2026.
Additional proposals from the sports federations were discussed during the ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. Under any other business, the organisation of the fifth edition of the Bahrain Kids Olympics and the 2026 Olympic Day event was scheduled for the final quarter of this year.
