HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Engages in Talks with IOC President to Foster Cooperation

Kuwait City: His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who holds multiple key sports-related positions in Bahrain, recently engaged in a significant meeting with Kirsty Coventry, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The encounter took place amidst the 37th meeting of the Presidents of Olympic Committees in the GCC countries and the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, hosted in Kuwait.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting saw the presence of notable figures such as His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC); Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary-General of the BOC; and Fajer Jassim, a Board Member of the BOC. His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad extended congratulations to Kirsty Coventry on her new leadership role at the IOC, expressing his well-wishes for her success in guiding the esteemed Olympic institution.

The discussions between Shaikh Khalid and Coventry focused on strengthening collaboration between the BOC and the IOC. Key areas of interest included the development of Olympic programmes, the empowerment of women in sports, and the expansion of sports participation to elevate Bahrain's profile on the international sporting stage.

Both leaders acknowledged the strong bilateral relations and highlighted the necessity of ongoing coordination to support athletes in alignment with the Olympic Movement's guiding principles and values.
