Cairo: Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health, conducted a series of bilateral meetings during the 72nd Session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, which took place in Cairo from October 15 to 17, 2025.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Hasan met with Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population of Egypt. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in healthcare, particularly in medical training, technical exchange, and capacity building across various medical domains between the two countries.
Furthermore, Dr. Hasan engaged in talks with Dr. Ibrahim Mahfouz Al Badour, Minister of Health of Jordan, to explore partnerships in developing primary healthcare services, strengthening emergency preparedness, and advancing cooperation in precision medicine, genomics, and the pharmaceutical and medical industries.
In a separate engagement, she met with Oleg Salagay, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, to discuss collaboration in genetic medicine and specialised medical training. The discussions also covered the exchange of expertise aimed at enhancing national capabilities and improving the efficiency of health systems.
During her visit, the Minister attended several side events, including a ceremony at Abdeen Palace Museum for the State of Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The event, held under the auspices of the WHO, recognised efforts in combating non-communicable diseases and strengthening prevention and treatment programmes.
Dr. Hasan also participated in a high-level session on enhancing healthcare pathways to advance the Global Breast Cancer Initiative. She highlighted Bahrain's focus on breast cancer prevention through early detection, awareness campaigns, and integrated treatment services, noting the importance of the National Cancer Registry and the Bahrain Genome Project in supporting precision medicine and medical research.
As part of her itinerary, Dr. Hasan visited the Children's Cancer Hospital 57357, where she was briefed on its model of providing specialised care and psychosocial support for children with cancer.
