Haj Tawfiq calls for building economic integration with Oman

Amman: Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Khalil Haj Tawfiq, called for building an “integrated” Jordan-Oman economic unity.

During a meeting Thursday with an Omani delegation to discuss stimulating investment opportunities in the agricultural and food fields, Haj Tawfiq said the two countries’ private sector plays a “major” role in achieving economic integration and establishing partnerships to achieve common interests.

Haj Tawfiq pointed out that the JCC will organize a visit for a trade delegation from Jordan’s various trade and service sectors to Oman during next September to review opportunities for joint trade and investment cooperation.

Haj Tawfiq said the two countries need to invest in the agricultural sector and food security, referring to the “remarkable” opportunities in Jordan in this field, which requires establishment of joint trade and investment partnerships.

Additionally, he stressed the need to build on the outcomes of the mutual visits of the two countries’ leaderships,
the most recently was the trip of Sultan of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, to ??the Kingdom.

Haj Tawfiq noted this effort aims to open a “new” phase of joint trade and investment cooperation and benefit from existing opportunities, aimed to push the two countries’ trade exchanges, which are still “modest.”

In this regard, Hajj Tawfiq stressed that conditions are “ready” to double numbers of trade exchange and investments, which would be achieved by benefiting from mutual strengths of each party, primarily strategic location, services or “advanced” industries, and expertise transfer in various fields.
