His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA) and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, has stressed the importance of partnership between the GSA and various local universities to provide the appropriate educational opportunities for players to create a fit generation with an interest in sports along with science and knowledge.
HH Shaikh Khalid was speaking as he attended the signing of a memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between GSA, University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) and the Arab Open University (AOU).
He said that these agreements aimed to encourage players to pursue higher education and obtain the highest academic degrees to qualify them to have a professional life in addition to their athletic one.
HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice Chairman of GSA, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education, Dr. Diana Al Jahrami, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council (HEC), Hisham Al Rayes, CEO of GFH Financial Group, attended the signing ceremony.
HH Shaikh Khalid appreciated the cooperation of the universities and praised their role in encouraging athletes to develop their abilities in various academic aspects.
The MoA was signed by Dr. Abdulrahman Askar, CEO of the GSA, Dr. Hassan Ali Al Mulla, President of UTB, and Dr. Ghurmallah Al Ghamdi, President of AOU.
