Doha: The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) convened an extraordinary session to address the recent Israeli aggression against Qatar. Chaired by His Highness Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, the meeting was attended by key leaders from the GCC member states, including the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and the GCC Secretary General.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the council discussed the severe repercussions of the Israeli attack, which targeted residential areas in Qatar. The assault resulted in the death of Badr Saad Mohammed Al Humaidi Al Dosari, a member of the Qatari security services, and caused civilian casualties. The area, densely populated with schools and diplomatic missions, was deemed to be at significant risk, highlighting the violation of international law and the undermining of peace efforts in Gaza.
The GCC Supreme Council issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s actions, labeling them a grave breach of international law and a dangerous escalation. The council affirmed its solidarity with Qatar and emphasized the indivisibility of GCC security, pledging support for Qatar’s sovereignty and stability.
The council also directed the GCC Joint Defence Council to convene urgently in Doha to evaluate the situation and enhance joint defense mechanisms. Additionally, it warned of the broader threat that continued Israeli aggression poses to regional peace and stability, calling for firm international measures to deter future violations.
The council urged the international community to act decisively against Israel’s disregard for international norms, stressing the need for deterrent sanctions. It also reiterated the importance of respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
The GCC leaders expressed gratitude to nations and organizations that condemned the aggression, underscoring the global consensus against such violations. They emphasized the necessity of unified international efforts to halt the aggression and support peace initiatives in the region.
