Manama: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned the statements issued by the Houthi military spokesperson, including what he described as false allegations and baseless accusations against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Albudaiwi stated that the Houthi statements represent an attempt to distort the facts and evade responsibility for the group's practices, which he said have contributed to the suffering of the Yemeni people while threatening regional security and stability.
He emphasized that the statements would not alter the established facts, particularly Saudi Arabia's efforts to support the Yemeni people, contribute to security and stability, advance the political process, and provide humanitarian and relief assistance.
Albudaiwi also highlighted that the security of maritime navigation and the freedom of international trade are crucial to regional and international security and stability. He added that any attempts to target international waterways constitute a violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
He called upon the international community to take a firm stance against what he described as false Houthi allegations and threats, and to implement UN Security Council resolutions to protect maritime navigation and prevent actions that endanger the security of international shipping lanes.
Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC's full support for Saudi Arabia and all measures it undertakes to safeguard its security, sovereignty, and interests.
