Manama: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has issued a strong condemnation of the missile strike launched by Iran against Qatar, describing the act as a serious violation of Qatari sovereignty and a threat to the collective security of the Gulf region. In a statement released today, Albudaiwi emphasised that any attack on a GCC member state is an attack on the entire Council, reiterating the bloc's unified stance in standing with Qatar against any threat to its territorial integrity and national security.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Secretary-General noted the troubling nature of the attack, particularly as it comes at a time when Qatar and other GCC countries have been actively advocating for de-escalation in the region, condemning Israeli strikes on Iranian territory and working toward a ceasefire through diplomatic efforts. The Iranian missile strike, he said, runs counter to these peaceful initiatives and represents a dangerous escalation that undermines regional stability.
Albudaiwi urged the international community, and in particular the United Nations Security Council, to take a firm position against this aggression. He called for decisive international action to deter further irresponsible behaviour, stressing the need to prioritise dialogue, uphold international law, and safeguard the security and stability of the Gulf region.
