GCC and WCO Sign Addendum to Strengthen Customs Cooperation

Brussels:Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), along with Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), have signed an addendum to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance customs cooperation between the two organizations.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the new addendum builds upon an MoU initially signed on December 15, 2017. As part of this development, the GCC Customs Union Authority has been designated as the body responsible for cooperation, representation, communication, and coordination regarding the MoU's implementation.

This designation comes as the authority takes on its responsibilities for customs union affairs within the GCC General Secretariat's institutional framework. The signing was accompanied by a meeting between Albudaiwi and Saunders, where they discussed mechanisms for customs cooperation, coordination, and the exchange of expertise aimed at advancing GCC customs systems and promoting Gulf customs integration.
