GCC Ambassadors and EU Discuss Iranian Attacks and Maritime Security

Brussels: GCC Ambassadors to the European Union convened with Ambassador H©l¨ne Le Gal, Managing Director for Middle East and North Africa at the European External Action Service, at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Brussels. This meeting was part of Bahrain's presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council and was initiated by Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad, Bahrain's Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the EU.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions addressed recent developments concerning Iranian attacks on GCC member states since February 28, 2026. The meeting also examined the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and its effects on navigation freedom and international maritime security. The focus was on enhancing GCC-EU coordination in diplomatic, security, and humanitarian efforts.

Dr. Behzad conveyed the GCC's gratitude for the EU's supportive stance, highlighting that the Iranian attacks are a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, as well as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. He emphasized the potential impacts on global energy, food security, and international supply chains.

Ambassador Le Gal reiterated the EU's condemnation of the Iranian attacks and outlined recent EU diplomatic engagements and their outcomes. She stressed that maintaining navigation freedom in the Strait of Hormuz is a priority for the EU.

The GCC Ambassadors emphasized the need for continued close coordination at both bilateral and multilateral levels between the GCC and the EU to support security and stability in the Gulf region and beyond.
