Brussels: At least four people have died in several nursing homes in Belgium after contracting strains of E. coli bacteria. Authorities reported up to 20 infections with enterohemorrhagic E. coli, suspected to have been transmitted through contaminated food.
According to Bahrain News Agency, a spokeswoman for the Belgian Food Safety Organisation stated that raw meat, fish, or milk could have been the source of the outbreak. The investigation into the exact cause is ongoing as health officials work to prevent further spread of the bacteria.
Local health authorities in Belgium are closely monitoring the situation and have urged nursing homes to enforce stricter hygiene practices. They are also conducting inspections and testing food samples to identify the contamination source. Residents of the affected nursing homes and their families have been informed of the situation and are receiving support from healthcare providers.
