Tashkent: Four fighters from Bahrain's national mixed martial arts (MMA) team have secured places in the semi-finals of the 10th IMMAF World Championship, hosted in collaboration with Team Bahrain on November 1-13 at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Magomed Sheikhov, Gimbat Magomedov, Ghadzi Ghadzhiev, and Sultan Gapizov advanced to the semi-finals with strong victories in the quarter-finals. According to Bahrain News Agency, the quarter-finals featured five Bahraini fighters: Ghadzi Ghadzhiev (88.4kg), Magomed Sheikhov (56.7kg), Gimbat Magomedov (79.4kg), Abdulrahman Janahi (83.9kg), and Sultan Gapizov (97kg+). Ghadzhiev defeated Uzbekistan's Asilbek Mukhammadjonov by submission in the second round at 4:32. Sheikhov won by unanimous decision against Belgium's Hamza Astamirov, Magomedov also claimed victory by unanimous decision over Germany's Sedat Demir, and Gapizov won his match by unanimous decision against Angola's Nicklas Helander. Abdulrahman Janahi, however, was defeated by submission to Franc e's Oualy Tandia. The semi-finals will take place next Friday, where Sheikhov will face Uzbekistan's Firdavs Khaitmatov (56.7kg), Magomedov will compete against Georgia's Mirza Gajievi (79.4kg), Ghadzhiev will go up against Tajikistan's Abdullo Abdulloev (88.4kg), and Gapizov will meet American Cary Miller (97kg+). Meanwhile, Mohamed Ali Qambar, the President of the Bahrain MMA Federation, met with Kerrith Brown, President of the IMMAF, on the sidelines of the quarter-finals. They discussed collaboration to enhance the development of MMA at local and international levels. Qambar emphasised the importance of advancing competition standards through programmes and initiatives that promote players' progress towards professional sport.
