Manama: Five thousand mangrove trees will be planted by the national afforestation campaign ‘Forever Green’ in Halat Umm Al Baydh, backed by a contribution from First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB).
Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, welcomed the launch of the planting initiative in Halat Umm Al Baydh and underscored the private sector’s support of the afforestation campaign.
The minister said the initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2060, as outlined in the National Energy Strategy, announced by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland.
He also commended the continued support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa for planting mangrove trees.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD); Dr. Kha
lid Ahmed Hassan, Undersecretary for Animal Wealth Resources; Mohammed Al Oraibi, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture Affairs; and Jalal Al Alawi, Country CEO of FAB, were present during the launch ceremony.
Shaikha Maram highlighted the importance of agricultural initiatives and their environmental benefits, noting they are backed by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s vision, follow up by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and guided by the directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of HM the King and Chair of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development.
For his part, Al Alawi emphasised FAB’s commitment to supporting the initiative, which aims to preserve the environment and counter climate change.
