Foreign Minister Meets Danish Counterpart on Regional Security

Amman: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Lars L¸kke Rasmussen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, on the sidelines of the GCC-EU Regional Security and Cooperation Forum. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional security challenges.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions highlighted the longstanding ties between Bahrain and Denmark, emphasizing opportunities for expanded cooperation in political, economic, and development sectors. The ministers also deliberated on strengthening GCC-EU cooperation, particularly during Bahrain's and Denmark's tenure on the United Nations Security Council, to bolster international peace and security.

The dialogue further addressed regional issues, including the recent Iranian attacks on Bahrain and GCC member states, threats to navigation freedom in the Strait of Hormuz, and strategies to maintain regional security and stability. Both ministers condemned the attacks, expressed solidarity with affected nations, and emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait open for international navigation. They agreed that no single state should dominate or charge transit fees for passage through the Strait, aligning with the interests of maritime nations to protect navigation freedom.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad, Bahrain's Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union.
