Foreign Minister Engages with US Representative to Address Regional Security Concerns

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Ambassador Mike Waltz, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, and a member of the United Nations Security Council, in Manama. The meeting focused on reviewing the longstanding and strategic partnership between Bahrain and the United States across multiple fields, with an emphasis on further strengthening bilateral cooperation to enhance regional security and stability.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions also explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation and coordination between Bahrain and the United States within the framework of the United Nations Security Council. Currently, Bahrain is serving as a non-permanent member while the United States holds a permanent seat. Both parties emphasized the importance of continuing consultations, not only bilaterally but also with other Council members, on a new resolution aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and protecting the rights of commercial vessel crews in the Arabian Gulf.

The dialogue extended to exchanging views on regional developments, particularly addressing the continued Iranian attacks against Bahrain and other GCC member states. The implications of potential closures of the Strait of Hormuz on the global economy were also discussed, along with other pressing issues before the Security Council.

The meeting witnessed the presence of key officials, including Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York; Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaliq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Salman Hassan Al Jalahma, Chief of the Americas Affairs Sector.
