Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call from Yvette Cooper, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom. During the call, both sides reviewed the strategic partnership and friendly relations between the two nations, exploring avenues for further development. They discussed the latest regional developments, specifically the repercussions of the hostile Iranian attacks against the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC states, and Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the ministers underscored the necessity of Iran's full commitment to an immediate cessation of all hostilities and the reopening of the Strait in order to safeguard the global economy, international trade, and the security of energy and food supplies. The discussion also covered the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, mediated by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Both parties agreed to enhance joint consultation and coordination within the United Nations Security Council, coinciding with the Kingdom's non-permanent membership and its presidency of the Council for the month of April. They concluded by reaffirming the importance of bilateral cooperation and intensified efforts to maintain regional security and stability in the interest of both regional and global prosperity.
