Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in London with Thomas Kazakos, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping. The meeting reviewed cooperation between Bahrain and the International Chamber of Shipping and explored ways to strengthen coordination in information sharing, maritime safety, and emergency and dispute response related to international shipping.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Bahrain, the two sides also discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the impact of the hostile Iranian attacks against Bahrain and the GCC member states, and the consequences of Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz on maritime transport, international trade, and the global economy, in violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. They also reviewed regional and international efforts to restore navigation through the Strait to its pre-28 February 2026 status, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global energy and food supplies, and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting underscored the need for the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities by taking action to restore international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and alleviate the hardship faced by thousands of seafarers stranded in the Arabian Gulf and separated from their families.
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom and Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps, along with the accompanying delegation.
